I had several “me too!” moments reading about the 7th Century B.C. Prophets this week. Overall, I definitely feel a greater connection to these guys than I ever have before. We, as modern day Believers, have a great deal in common with the receptions, even persecutions they faced (albeit not as much on the physical side), as they went about propagating God’s messages to the leaders and people of their times. Sometimes, as we go about sharing God’s message of salvation through Jesus Christ we encounter limited reception, ignorance, rejection, ridicule, and the like. It seems the more zeal we have, the worse the persecutions we may at times endure.
In addition, I appreciated Habakkuk’s lengthy complaint to God concerning, “why the wicked prosper?” The beautiful reply to that, made my spirit say “WO”. (pun intended), as God gives a lengthy reply to tell the prophet over and over , “woe to him or who..[transgressions inserted]”. In other words, Habakkuk, don’t be alarmed, those who are sowing all these observed injustices and unrighteous things will surely reap, and I will see to it. In the meantime, “ the just shall live by his faith (Hab. 2:4).
