Seminary Discussion this week

For the Born-again child of God, one of the most exciting contemplations is that of the Second coming of Christ!

I just have to pass this along (be it devoid of complex theology). I once heard a wise old sage-like preacher declare that if you “get lost” in the prophecies of Revelation, you need remember only two things about the book. The two things are: 1) Our team wins and 2) Jesus is coming back one day and he is going to straighten this mess out!

When discussing Old Testament prophecies in OT500, Dr. Moore brought out how “prophetic writings afflict the comfortable, and apocalyptic literature comforts the afflicted”. This certainly applies to Revelation. The “comfortable” being those who “have received their reward”, and are not ready for anything to change. The afflicted (certainly those who are afflicted by their current circumstances, as believers frequently are, are comforted by apocalyptic narratives. This aspect of Revelation was brought out by deSilva. John’s visions of Jesus, the new heavens, new earth, etc., would be “music to the ears” of the afflicted believers in the early churches in Asia Minor, and they are comforting as well to us today. Certainly few things can recharge your spiritual batteries like reading about the King of Kings returning for his bride, the church (and you and me), at any moment. Then, we exclaim with John, “Come Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20 NKJV).

Blessings!
George
