Amazing Love

It's Good Friday. It's a day of amazing love. As I contemplated this day a few thoughts came to mind this morning:

In the 1982 science fiction movie "Star Trek II: The wrath of Kahn", the science officer Mr. Spock gave his life to save the crew of the starship Enterprise. As Spock was dying, he tells his dear friend Captain Kirk, "don't grieve. It's logical, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one". Although he was only half human in the movie, Spock showed amazing love for his friends by dying for them.

Good Friday. It's a memorial day. Jesus had taught His disciples that greater love has no man than this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends. On the first Good Friday Jesus showed them what he had taught them. But, He didn't die for only them, but all of mankind. What amazing love.

It's the day that Jesus proclaimed from the cross, "It is finished". The Bible says that Jesus was the lamb of God (Agnus Dei) that was slain before the foundation of the world. The "plan" that was finished on the cross, was therefore divinely designed eons before the day of the crucifixion. Jesus succinctly summarized this plan in John 3:16, "For God so LOVED the world that He gave His only beloved son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life". What amazing love.

It has been said that "When He was on the cross, you were on His mind". This thought brings a tear to my eye. I should have been the one on that cross, but only He could have done what He did.
What amazing love.

Prayers and Blessings,
George
