Foolishness, or the Power of God?
I was reading the movie reviews this morning for the new faith-based movie, "Do you believe". The typical movie critic websites gave the movie terrible reviews. Of course, that is not unusual. On one movie review website I did see that out of 5863 movie reviews by movie goers themselves, 88% of people liked the movie (and gave it good reviews).
So why is there such a big difference in what the movie critics think and what the average movie goer thinks? Well, I suppose there are a number of reasons, but one idea that comes to mind is that this movie really preaches the message of the cross of Christ very loudly and clearly. When Angie and I saw the movie, we witnessed, in dramatic fashion, a depiction of what the power of God looks like when it is brought to bear on 12 lives that are in desperate need of help and/or salvation. In other words, we saw imagery of God's glorious power manifested in actors and actresses that were portraying modern day souls with desperate emotional and physical needs.
When you see a movie like this you have to go in thinking that we, as Christians, serve a God who can work miracles and change lives in ways beyond our comprehension, as the Bible indicates. If you go into the movie thinking that you are going to see something really special, you will. If you don't do that you might see foolishness. Odd terminology, you say?
One movie critic said that this movie was "..more garbage for the foolish flock.."
Really?
The Apostle Paul wrote:
"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
My prayer for those who think it is foolishness:
Dear Father, may those who see this movie and think it is foolishness never forget the message of the Cross that it contains; and one day accept it personally, as the Power of God to save their souls. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Blessings,
George
